Perception et territoireMéditerranée – projet 2014-2016 – 52 x 580 x 272 cm

François Machado is born in 1979 in France. He is working and living in the south of France. He mainly explores volumes and subjects surrounding us without attracting our attention. That way, the artist creates poetic installations by revealing what we don’t look at, sharing with us a strong artistic work.

A french writter, Elisabeth Couturier, shared some very good words about his work in French, translated here:

« In fact, Machado focus on empties and full which are parts of our environnement. Those through which we circulate, without noticing, without seeing it. Or those, too, that stand in a particular part of our imaginary. »

That way,  in between other projects, the artist is working on a representation (scale: 2/3 millionth), hanging above our heads, of the Méditerranée, or more specifically the contact surface in between water volume and extremities of the earth. A stunning idea.  Then, the non-submerged lands disappear and the water that became solid, presents itself as a physical entity charged of memory :  » We speak, says the artist, about the Mediterranée, we know it, but do we know how it looks like? But do we know how to recognize its form when it is isolated? ». »

« A celebration of the career of iconic choreographer William Forsythe, as an American working internationally for the last thirty years, Forsythe is recognised as one of the world’s foremost choreographers. His work is celebrated for reorienting the practice of ballet from its identification with classical repertoire into a dynamic 21st-century art form.

Composed of thread and fog, the material work is a score for a delicately sustained solo performance. This installation by William Forsythe is made in collaboration with Philip Bußmann, features a soundtrack by Thom Willems and is performed at the Arko Art Center by Alessio Silvestrin. »

« The floating, spectral gestures of Additive Inverse summon our primary fascination with language and illusion. This is a correspondence with one of the fundamental objectives of theater: to lend a calculation of language the quality of spontaneous materialization. »

Victoria est designer graphique, vivant à Brooklyn, New York.

The title of the artwork seems to be a reference to Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s book “On Death and Dying”, written in 1969.  She was the first to develope the idea of five stages in normal grief.

Daehyun Kim, known as his artist name Moonassi, is a Korean artist born in Seoul in 1980.

« I was born in Seoul in 1980, now live and work in Seoul. I studied oriental painting which is a study on the traditional East Asian painting. I’ve been drawing Moonassi series since university. The series is my life-time project. There is no specific background story or a theory about the drawing. Each drawing is created based on my daily thoughts and feelings. I draw to meditate on myself and others, and to be able to see the whole story of the series in the end. »

GAY OUTLAW

Born in 1959 in Alabama.

« Outlaw realizes her abstract forms in a challenging mix of materials, from glass to plastic to felt, to found materials like pencils or rubber hoses– at times, she has employed food in her sculptures. Even as a fan of minimalism, she offers viewers new relationships to formal art, taking them beyond its past rigors. »

« The One Thing After Another
Per Kristian Nygaard at KHM Gallery
by Wojciech Olejnik

Per Kristian Nygaard’s exhibition The One Thing After Another explores the influence of social and political ideologies on public and private space, on its material composition, on its architecture. Consider House (2010), a model of a high-rise building constructed out of unfinished plywood. It towers over the viewer like a modernist sculpture, simple and elegant in its design and use of material. Such simplicity marks much modernist city planning and architecture, which seem to embody a bare rationality developed out of a rigorous consideration of the placement and arrangement of objects. This approach involves the implementation of an overarching order, where even ornamentation stems from its very structure, according to an inner logic. House (2010) presents the deduced, bare essentials of such a logic: form and material. Presented as a model it acts as a demonstration of the original design, of the formal concerns that precede the eventual completion of the structure, and in its unpainted state it brings attention to the raw material used in its construction.

It is no secret that in modernist architecture the materials used were often left exposed, that they themselves symbolized new engineering feats, but also represented a new modern age. Nygaard’s work such as Unapologetic Architect II (2010), brings attention to certain forms and shapes that have also been crucial in establishing the modernist aesthetic. This piece is a drawing of an imagined building, which compresses rectangular shapes to form a complex architectural structure, reminiscent of a mall or some other social space. A uniform grid of windows covers the walls and the roof, with steel frames and glass convening in an angular geometric reality of cubes and squares. Unlike a circle or a triangle, the cube is infinitely divisible into the same shape, into equal portions, and thus it may represent equality itself. Here, the clean lines and Lego-like units that define this public place suggest a uniformity of the social body, of its infinite mass, and how its wealth and property can be portioned into discrete, equal yet separate units. »
